Filmmaker and theatre practitioner Hamza Bangash, whose short film Dia has had multiple screenings at various international festivals, represented Pakistan for the first time at the 72nd edition of Locarno International Film Festival 2019, which took place from August 7 to August 17, 2019.
Seems like the young filmmaker is on a roll; he has been selected to join the Asian Film Academy (AFA) as part of the Busan International Film Festival (BIFF) in October 2019.
“Super excited to be a part of this year’s Asian Film Academy with the Busan International Film Festival,” Hamza wrote on his official Instagram handle. “The first time I applied for this was in 2017 and 2 years later it has finally happened. Can’t wait for two weeks of learning, hanging and experiencing Korea for the first time,” he added.
The Asian Film Academy is a program hosted by BIFF, Busan Film Commission and GKL Foundation to foster young Asian talent and build their networks throughout Asia. The best part is that the promising filmmakers will have a chance to participate in various AFA programs, including short film production, workshops and special lectures. The two short films completed by the fellows will be officially presented at the 24th Busan International Film Festival. While participating in the programs, the fellows will rediscover themselves and share their passion, connecting them despite the differences in their experiences and cultural backgrounds.
