    Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani presiding over a meeting here Saturday fixed the ex-mill sugar price at Rs45 per kilogram for the next three months.

    The meeting also decided that there will be no restriction on inter-provincial transportation of sugar and wheat.

    According to PM House spokesman, the ex-mill price of sugar will be inclusive of all the taxes while the government has already slashed general sales tax by 50 percent on sugar.

    The Prime Minister, during meeting, directed the officials of Ministry of Industries and Production to ensure availability of sugar at Rs38 per kg at utility stores across the country. An effective mechanism of monitoring be devised with the cooperation of the provinces, he ordered.

    The meeting decided for the chief ministers of the four provinces to convene fortnightly meetings for determination of sugar price on long-term basis.
